    social enterprise in northumberland

There are hundreds of organisations serving communities all across Northumberland. As social enterprises they provide services from childcare to recycling, training and advice, transport and community centres and food cooperatives.

A social enterprise is an organisation that has meeting the needs of its community at its heart. As a social enterprise, a community group becomes less reliant on funding, instead supporting itself through trading, with profits ploughed back in to developing the business.

Social Enterprise Northumberland is helping these enterprises grow, and offering expert advice to people who want to set up new enterprises. Last year over 200 new and established social enterprises made the most of the free support and advice on offer.

So you have a great idea for an enterprise that would serve your community? Not sure how to go about it? Don't worry, the social enterprise team can help, and it won't cost you a penny. The team can:

    • Help you decide on the best type of legal entity for your business
    • Support you developing your management structure
    • Guide you in business and strategic planning
    • Advise on areas like public procurement, marketing or financial planning
    • Help you access other funding sources where appropriate
